The SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition) model, developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura, allows teachers to reflect on how technology is being integrated in the classroom. This framework provides another way for educators to visualize and discuss HOW technology can be integrated and HOW it can transform instruction and learning.

Our SAMR Institute & Camp has been uniquely developed with YOU in mind. We’re merging research and data with choice and engagement, as well as some face-to-face learning with some online learning. Throughout the initial two-day institute, we will learn from Dr. Ruben Puentedura, the expert behind SAMR. You will learn the essential components of the SAMR Model, a key research study in educational technology that describes technology integration through four levels. Then you will learn from other educators in our region who have implemented the SAMR Model, and explore resources for further understanding. Later we will engage in activities to measure student outcomes as they relate to SAMR.  These activities will empower you to have an autonomous understanding of how to approach educational technology and evaluate student work.

Throughout our SAMRi Camp, you will learn how to integrate laptops/iPads into classroom instruction using these models. You will develop a unit or lesson that can be implemented in the classroom, then return to share and collaborate with others in an edcamp-style reflection and sharing day. We will have an online portal for sharing resources and lessons as well as host Twitter chats to keep you informed and motivated to implement SAMR today!
